La description de l'état des cartes est faite d'après les grilles d'appréciation du guide "Neudin":

Bon (Good, Gut): On accepte un petit pli, une petite oxydation ou encore une petite tache du côté de l'image. Les angles peuvent être arrondis ou touchés. On tolère une petite fente, une écriture d'esthétique moyenne en dehors de l'illustration ainsi qu'un petit maculage d'oblitération.

Médiocre (Fair, Massig): Il peut y avoir un pli assez marqué, une tache moyenne du côté de l'image, une oxydation moyenne, des angles très arrondis ou touchés, une écriture inesthétique envahissante ou débordant sur le cliché. Ce qualificatif sera donné aux cartes comportant des particules adhérentes, de petites coupures, des coups d'épingle, un timbre décollé.

Mauvais (Bad, Schlecht):
Tous les défauts sont énumérables: fente importante, pli sur la totalité de la carte, tache importante, oblitération lourde (maculage ou transpercement), partie d'image arrachée, timbre arraché brutalement, angle cassé, déchirure (trou), oxydation importante, écriture effacée maladroitement, coupure importante, écriture lourde sur l'illustration.
